Write For Us

Independent voices on film, television and screen culture.

Film Burner welcomes writers who have something interesting to say about cinema. We’re interested in original perspectives, thoughtful criticism and writing that goes beyond simply recommending what to watch.

You don’t need to be a professional film critic or have an established writing career. What matters is the quality of your ideas, your understanding of the subject and your ability to communicate clearly.

What we’re looking for

We welcome pitches across several areas of film and screen culture:

  • Film reviews: Informed, independent criticism of new releases, international cinema, independent productions and films that deserve a second look.
  • Essays and analysis: Thoughtful examination of filmmaking, performances, direction, cinematography, storytelling and the wider cultural significance of cinema.
  • Interviews and features: Original interviews, reported features and stories about filmmakers, performers and the people behind the camera.
  • Film and industry commentary: Considered perspectives on developments affecting cinema, distribution, streaming and the creative industries.
  • Television and streaming: Selected reviews and features that examine the work itself rather than simply reproduce release announcements.

We value clear arguments, careful research and an individual voice. We are less interested in promotional material, recycled entertainment news or articles written primarily to attract search traffic.

Our contributor standards

Film Burner aims to build a publication readers can trust. Articles should be original, accurate and written with editorial independence.

Published contributors are expected to use their real full name and provide a short biography and profile photograph. Relevant professional or personal interests can be mentioned in the biography.

Submissions are subject to editorial review, and publication is not guaranteed.

Are contributions paid?

Film Burner is not currently able to pay freelance contributors. We believe it is important to be clear about this before anyone submits work.

We welcome contributions from writers who are comfortable with that arrangement, but recognise that writing takes time and deserves proper recognition.
